Whirlpool Corporation is a US multinational appliance manufacturer.
It was founded in 1911 in Michigan, and the first Whirlpool brand product was launched in 1950.
In the following decades, the company grew, expanded internationally, and in 1988, together with Philips, created a joint venture called Whirlpool International, which was then acquired entirely by the American company in 1991.
Since 2006, with the acquisition of Maytag Corporation, until then, its main competitor in the US market, Whirlpool has become the world's largest manufacturer of household appliances, surpassing Electrolux.
In July 2014, Whirlpool reached an agreement to purchase 60.4% of Indesit Company's capital.
